ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE TIGER FUND

The Tiger Fund was conceived prior to the 68^th Assault Helicopter Company 2004 reunion held in Nashville in Sept 2004. A generous benefactor had become aware of the reunion via the 68thahc.com website, and contacted the Webmasters with a proposition. He would cover the expenses of unit members who wished to attend Nashville but couldn't due to financial hardship. The benefactor, who wished to remain anonymous, delivered a substantial check and referred to the monies as the “Tiger Fund”. The fund name is in recognition of the company name, the Top Tigers. He then asked the Webmasters to identify deserving recipients.

The Webmasters searched nationwide for unit members who would benefit from the fund and several accepted the offer of assistance. Eventually, the fund covered $1713 worth of expenses to Nashville , mostly in the form of airfare and hotel costs. Funds spent were less for the 2006 reunion in Las Vegas.

At the reunion business meeting, a decision was made to continue the Tiger Fund beyond Nashville . Rich Furness, organizer of the Nashville re-union, immediately proposed that any monies remaining after Nashville expenses were paid, be placed in the fund. The unit members in attendance agreed.

The next contribution came from Geoffrey Webster, Mustang 6 circa 1968. In December, Geoff ordered unit baseball caps that will be offered for sale to unit members. The profits will be donated to the fund. In the future, other methods to replenish and grow the fund will be examined. Of course, voluntary donations will also be gratefully accepted.

Those wishing to donate to the fund may send a check to: “Tiger Fund”, 4 San Ignacio, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, 92688. Contributors may specify how their donation is to be used, but not a specific recipient of distributions from the fund. That decision will be made by a board of directors consisting of Frans VandenBroek, Gary Sheffield, & Dave Holloway. The board will meet periodically, (primarily via phone or emails) and publish all fund transactions on the 68thahc website, as well as at each unit reunion.

Soon, the 68thahc website will post a statement of the Tiger Fund goals and objectives. We will also E-mail a copy of the statement to all unit members who have E-mail. Please confirm the E-mail address we have on file for you, and notify us of changes. We look forward to seeing all of you, plus a few more, in San Antonio in 2008.

The cost per hat including shipping is $24.00 payable by check only {do not send cash, do not send a postal money order}.
All funds over the cost of manufacturing and postage will be put into the Tiger Fund.
Check made out to the Tiger Fund to be sent to Tiger Fund, PO Box 666, Frostproof, Fl 33843.
Orders received by 15 January will be sent by the first week of February.
